X-Force Fellowship AMA Sessions

NSIN is hosting two web-based Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions about the upcoming 2023 NSIN X-Force program. Undergraduate and graduate students interested in this unique summer fellowship opportunity are invited to attend one of these events for more information.

 
 
Applications are open for university students to apply for the 2023 X-Force Fellowship program by Feb. 10.

Epirus produces Leonidas, a directed energy system that leverages high-power microwaves to help defend against swarming unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Through the new contract, Epirus will deliver prototype systems and work with the U.S. Army's Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office to transition the technology into a future program of record.

Asylon develops automated robotic security systems to help industry and government secure facilities while reducing the need for human security presence in dangerous, remote, and mundane environments. The team has received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with AFWERX to augment its commercial DroneDog security robot system for the military.

Empower Battery is advancing battery technology for electric vehicles and resilient energy sources in the U.S. The Ohio State University-affiliated company will use its award from the Department of Energy (DOE) to develop and manufacture batteries for use in electric vehicles (EVs) and other applications.

FEB. 13, 2023

Join NSIN alongside other defense innovation leaders for the DARPAConnect workshop on Feb. 13, in Tampa, Florida. The event aims to break down barriers to working with the DoD for nontraditional partners, specifically for underrepresented academic organizations, including Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). There are opportunities to attend both in-person and online.

North American Championship Career Fair

FEB. 15, 2023

DoD recruiters and hiring managers can receive no-fee support from NSIN to connect with an elite pool of talent — some of North America’s top computing students— at the North American Championship (NAC) Virtual Career Fair on Feb. 15.

FEB. 20, 2023

NSIN, in partnership with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), today launched the geoSpatial Environment for Access, Retrieval & Content Hosting (gSEARCH) challenge to innovate new methods for the search and discovery of geospatial content. Finalists are eligible for a potential award of up to $75,000 in federal funding.

Applications close Feb. 20.

Innovate the generation of synthetic (SynGen) training data for military computer vision algorithms. Finalists are eligible for a potential federal funding award of up to $75,000.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 


Follow the NSIN Defense Innovation Funding Opportunities Series on LinkedIn to identify more funding across the defense innovation space.  
Innovators with emerging hypersonic technologies with attributes like low-cost manufacturing and materials, alternative guidance systems, advanced propulsion, and more, may submit their solutions through this CSO from Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for the opportunity to move on to Phase II and the potential to be selected for a contract award. Submissions are due Feb. 6.

Construction and design innovators with cost-effective solutions to deploy Soldier Performance Readiness Centers to Army bases may be awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant of up to $200,000 for their ideas with the possibility of follow-on contracts from Army Applications Lab (AAL). Submissions are due Feb. 14.

Innovators may submit solutions covering the following technology areas: air platform, battlespace, biomedical, chemical biodefense, electronics, ground sea, information systems, materials, nuclear, sensors, and space platforms to receive Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding from the U.S. Air Force. Submissions are due Feb. 23.

Innovators with scientific or technological solutions that address a range of challenges facing the U.S. Air Force may receive Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) grants from the department. During pre-release, questions are permitted to the topic technical point of contact. The pre-release period is ongoing until submissions open on Feb. 8. Submissions are due March 8.

DEFENSE INNOVATION EVENTS 

FEB. 6, 2023 


The U.S. Army xTechInternational competition offers eligible international small businesses and academic institutions with advanced manufacturing and materials innovations an opportunity to engage with the DoD, earn up to $530,000 in prize money, and potentially participate in the xTech accelerator program. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions directly to Army experts about the xTech Program, xTechInternational competition, and advanced manufacturing and materials topic areas at the Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Feb. 6. Submissions to xTechInternational close on March 2.

FEB. 15-16, 2023 


Small businesses interested in doing business with the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) will develop national security technology procurement strategies with SOFWERX. Participants will receive resources from acquisition experts to help companies discover contract opportunities, clarify known requirements, and navigate federal marketplaces.
