Innovate new methods for searching and discovering geospatial content in the geoSpatial Environment for Access, Retrieval & Content Hosting (gSEARCH) Challenge, sponsored by NSIN in partnership with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Finalists are eligible for a potential award of up to $75,000 in federal funding.

A team from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has won Phase 1 of the NSIN-sponsored Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Active AI Planners for Chemistry/Materials Optimization and Discovery Grand Challenge (AFRL Grand Challenge #2). The challenge includes the potential of a $500,000 contract – awarded in four development phases over the next nine months – to develop a machine learning-artificial intelligence system that can help researchers quickly find appropriate conditions for optimizing and discovering new synthetic compounds using multi-system approaches.

NSIN Director Named Trustee Emerita and Chair of Research Foundation Board

The University of Central Florida (UCF) has named NSIN Southeast Regional Director Bev Seay both a Trustee Emerita and the Chair of UCF's Research Foundation Board. The citation awarded to Seay mentions her efforts “to strengthen the university’s partnerships and reputation across industry, government, and academia, including by serving on the Board of Directors of the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) and spearheading the involvement of UCF and our entire State University System with the Southeast Region of the National Security Innovation Network.”

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) has designated a liaison at Purdue University to collaborate on NSIN opportunities with Purdue as part of an Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA) amendment. The EPA amendment was signed to increase STEM education opportunities and encourage collaboration between academia and the DoD.

NEW DEADLINE >> MAY 1, 2023

Innovate the generation of synthetic (SynGen) training data for military computer vision algorithms. Finalists are eligible for a potential federal funding award of up to $75,000.

North American Championship Career Fair
NSIN Foundry is a unique entrepreneurial opportunity focused on commercializing breakthrough defense technologies to solve national security problems. The Foundry program matches cutting-edge DoD technologies with teams of entrepreneurs during intensive, five-month cohorts. The application portal for the 2023 cohort is now open.

Apply by April 28.


FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 


Follow the NSIN Defense Innovation Funding Opportunities Series on LinkedIn to identify more funding across the defense innovation space.
Innovators with technologies for integrating sets of commodity devices, creating synthetic data sets, or building prototypes of metamaterial antennae may receive Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Submissions are due March 7.

Innovators with scientific or technological solutions that address a range of challenges facing the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Defense Health Agency, Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Microelectronics Activity, or Missile Defense Agency may receive SBIR/STTR grants. Submissions are due March 8. 

DEFENSE INNOVATION NEWS

A USAJOBS internship portal is now available for high school, college, and graduate students interested in internships with federal agencies. The portal makes finding opportunities easier, allowing applicants to sort openings by their agency, program length, pay, location, and potential to become full-time roles.

The U.S. Army xTechInternational competition offers eligible international small businesses and academic institutions with advanced manufacturing and materials innovations an opportunity to engage with the DoD, win part of a $530,000 prize purse, and potentially participate in the xTech accelerator program.

The America’s Future Series National Security Dual-Use Tech Summit offers defense innovators, the investment community, and academic and government leaders the chance to collaborate and increase our nation’s technological competitiveness.

MARCH 30, 2023


Industry and academia can apply to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and capabilities to scientists and engineers from the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate (AFRL/RW) during this market research opportunity. Each month, a panel of technical experts will select 3-5 submissions to deliver a brief presentation to government stakeholders. Submissions are due March 8.
