THIS WEEK

NSIN is partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to create a dedicated HBCU Innovation Network. Join the virtual Ask Me Anything session at 1 p.m. EDT on July 19 to learn more about the HBCU Innovation Network and how to get involved. Registration is required and space is limited. 

The Polar Vortex Virtual Hackathon kicks off in one week. Take part in the latest Hacks event to develop solutions to help collect, analyze, process, and visualize geospatial data in the Arctic. Registration is open now and closes July 19.

Join the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) tomorrow, July 13, for a virtual discussion on the relationship between technology policy and America’s ability to recruit and retain talent.

NSIN NEWS & EVENTS

NEWS: MassChallenge has released the 229 startups invited to participate in their 50th U.S. accelerator program. The accelerator’s Safety and Security Cohort, sponsored by NSIN, prepares diverse innovators to do business with and better understand the DoD’s needs.
MEDIA: The Catalyst Accelerator virtual pitch event, powered by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and supported by NSIN, featured 30 dual-use venture startups showcasing their space technology for the DoD. The companies are now participating in the 2021 Catalyst Collision where they will make headway in scaling their technology and business developments. 

JULY 29, 2021

EVENT: Join us for this virtual pitch competition focused on advanced textile fabric and fiber technologies. This two-part event will feature nine early-startup finalists and strategic remarks from AFFOA senior leaders. 

NEW AUG. 5, 2021

EVENT:  Attention Omaha Innovators - The DES will highlight defense-related technology innovation in Omaha, Nebraska, and feature remarks from state business development leaders about the culture of entrepreneurship. Defense innovation startups will showcase their companies and products at a virtual tech expo. 

DEFENSE INNOVATION NEWS & EVENTS 

NEWS: The DoD is investing in the experiments of organizations across the Pentagon through a new fund, the Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve (RDER). Funds will be awarded based on how well organizations expand DoD innovation ecosystems to work on joint concepts.

JULY 19 - 23, 2021

EVENT: The virtual 2021 National Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Week will connect entrepreneurs and organizations working on advanced technologies and early-stage funding. Attendees will hear from federal agency program managers who administer over 7,000 awards and provide over $4 billion in funding to small businesses annually.

JULY 21, 2021

EVENT: A webinar on the Department of the Air Force (DAF) SBIR/STTR program and its opportunities and expectations for technology entrepreneurs and researchers.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

The U.S. Army Research Office (ARO) is seeking plans for research in the next New and Emerging Qubit Science and Technology (nextNEQST) program. nextNEQST focuses on qubit systems that explore new operating regimes and environments, fundamentally new methods of fabrication, and new methods of design, control, or operation. Proposals are due July 20.
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) are seeking innovative ideas to build a global quantum future. White papers are due July 25.
